Sacrament of Reconciliation

Confessions:

Saturdays 9:45 / 10:30 a.m

Weekdays after Evening Mass

Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is often called "The door of the Church," because it is the first of the seven sacraments not only in time (since most Catholics receive it as infants) but in priority, since the reception of the other sacraments depends on it.

Adult Baptism

An adult can be baptised after proper instruction in the Faith which normally occurs today as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and is immediately followed by Confirmation and Communion.

By Appointment

Baptism is by appointment only, See the priest after mass to arrange a baptism.

First Holy Communion

A joint programme is run each year beginning in the Autumn with co-operation between parents, St Thomas school and the parish, to prepare Year 3 children for their First Holy Communion in June of the following year. The programme includes meetings for parents to enable them to give further support to the children. See the priest after mass.

Confirmation

By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptised are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. The Bishop comes by invitation to confirm candidates, who are usually of secondary school age. those who wish to be confirmed attend a preparation programme in the preceding months. See the priest after mass.

Marriage

If you want to get married at Our Lady and St Thomas of Hereford church you should normally give at least six months notice. In preparation for this important step in your lives, you would be expected to attend a four week course. This course focuses in particular on Marriage as a Sacrament. Couples are also encouraged to attend a one day course run by Marriage Care which aims to help them understand their relationship and what each of them brings to this partnership. See the priest after mass.

Funerals

Funerals are arranged through local undertakers in conjunction with the priest.
